The CIC designation is earned by attending five three-day institutes including Life & Health, Commercial Property, Commercial Casualty, Personal Lines and Agency management. At the conclusion of each institute, a rigorous examination must be passed.

Once the designation is obtained, CICs must attend at least one institute a year to meet the update requirement.

There are a total of nine one-day courses that focus on understanding exposures and coverage. A comprehensive one-hour exam follows each course.  Anyone may attend the classes without taking the exam; however, if you wish to earn the CISR designation, you must pass at least five of the nine courses.
